Technology has advanced over the years. For instance, the large boom box with two cassette decks common in the 70s was added in movie story lines in the 80s, increasing its popularity dramatically. The 90’s were marked with the invention of the Walkman that enabled download of music that one liked. Years later, there was an invention of a much smaller portable device known as the iPod. However, this advancement in technology is attributed to fashion. With the marrying of technology and fashion, various designers have stepped in to develop innovative items. Anna Haupt and Terese Alstin have taken the initiative of taking fashion to a whole new level by developing an Airbag that helps cyclists to protect their head from impact. Other designers such as Ashwin Rajan and Kevin Cannon have developed gloves that enable firefighters to communicate through simple hand gestures. SegraSegra is another designer who has chosen to capitalize on recycling of inner tubes of bicycles to make t-shirts and jackets. On the other hand, Emma Whiteside has designed a gown out of recycled radiator chopper. Soledad Martin has thought of generating energy by developing a shoe prototype so that when walking or running one can charge a cell phone.

Fashion works hand in hand with technology and brings about acceptance of things that had little recognition in the society. Putting on glasses brought about stigma. Therefore, the new technology of Google Glass was not accepted at first. However, when fashion designer Diane Von Furstenberg made her models wear glasses on the catwalk, the new technology became widely accepted.
